Maybe I went overboard when it came to Sandy. I filled containers throughout the kitchen with water.
Whatever happened, we wouldn’t be thirsty. And I could wash my hair.
All the news about Hurricane Sandy made me panicky. I looked up Eastern and Central Ontario, the places that would be hit hardest, they said.
Maybe, I thought, we are far enough to be considered Eastern Ontario. Then we’ll be safe.
No such luck. I brought in all the Halloween adornments from outside. I even made my husband wheel in the barbecue.
The wind whipped across the farmer’s field that night. I could barely sleep.
In the end, we escaped what they have endured south of us. Just a bad night’s sleep.
